Accomodation and Fees

Nalanda being a Monastery has accommodation on the premises only for male students. Accommodation is limited and as a result, we normally ask new residents (under the age of 35) to share a room.

Female students have found suitable accomodation in town or nearer the monastery.

Resident monks pay €200 per month as contribution for their living costs at the monastery. Nuns have to find their own accommodation and pay €150 per month, which includes teachings, all meals, plus the use of the server, coffee and tea.

If Sangha members have difficulty paying residential fees, please contact the director.

Aspirants, those lay-men considered to have the necessary qualifications to take ordination, for 6 months, pay a concessionary fee of €250 per month. For this an aspirant will first have a talk with the community of gelongs.

The fees cover the rent of the room, three meals a day, tea/coffee, and access to the teachings. Fees do not cover printing study materials, internet access, self-study materials, laundry, local travel costs and any telephone costs.

It is clear that the above fees for monastics and aspirants are insufficient to cover all of Nalanda's bills and costs. It is only through the kindness and generosity of sponsors that Nalanda can continue to offer a beneficial environment to study and practice.
