Losar's Special: Animal Liberation at Nalanda

In the morning of the Tibetan New Year (Losar), 12 of February 2021, we are going to engage in the practice of liberating animals in accordance with Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s advice. If you like to contribute towards this practice, please use the form below.

We will build an altar in the main gompa of Nalanda Monastery, containing a variety of holy objects, statues, stupas, dharma texts as well as Nalanda’s holy relics. While reciting many prayers and powerful mantras we will circumambulate the altar with the animals and, after every recitation, we will blow onto specially prepared water, which will then be sprinkled onto the body of the animals. This puts powerful imprints in their minds and purifies their negative karma; it liberates them from being born in the lower realms. Each circumambulation creates the causes of liberation and enlightenment and many hundreds of thousands of good rebirths for both the animals and, by the way, the people who circumambulate.
