A serie of events with the exceptional visit of the monks of the Tantric University of Gyutö Monastery .

This event is part of “The Year of Compassion” that will last until 6 July 2026 and is dedicated to le long and healthy life of Sa Sainteté le Dalaï-Lama.

Programme

1. Chenrezig Sand Mandala

Monday 7 to Friday 10 October 2025

The mandala of coloured sand is a symbolic representation of the palace of the deity (in this case, the Buddha of Compassion). It serves as an aid to meditation for the monks.

Once completed, the monks invoke Chenrezig, make offerings to him and address prayers to him.

An ephemeral art form, the mandala is then dissolved and scattered, for example in a river.

2. “Voices for Peace”

An interreligious concert for mutual respect and harmony with our Benedictine brothers from En Calcat Abbey and our sisters and brothers from the Sufi order of Alâwiyya-Darqâwiyya-Shâdhiliyya.

3. “Tantric Voices”

An inspiring concert in Lavaur to discover the amazing tantric practices of the Gyutö monks.

1– Gyunchak Sumpa: the Three Daily Sutras. Chant to develop Compassion, Wisdom and the Spirit of Awakening.

2- Blessing and protection of our planet. The monks call upon all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and spiritual guides to help us rid our minds of all disturbing factors.

3 – Zambhu Chuwoo: Seven Offerings to Yamantaka, a wrathful manifestation of Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom. The seven offerings are the seven royal emblems: the precious wheel, the precious jewel, the precious queen, the precious minister, the precious elephant, the precious horse, and the precious general.

4 – Jigchey Dhanjuk: The monks identify with the deity Yamantaka and receive his blessings. This practice has the power to reduce anger, envy, jealousy and greed.

5 – Rabné, literally ‘abiding in perfection’. This ceremony is an invocation to the Buddhas to remain in the universe for the benefit of all beings. The monks express their vow to do everything in their power to alleviate suffering. They wash the Buddha’s ‘body, speech and mind’ with consecrated water.

6 – Tenchen Drelchen Yang: offering to Mahakala, one of the most important protectors in Tibetan Buddhism. Outwardly black, wrathful, with six arms, he is a manifestation of Chenrezig, the Buddha of compassion. His terrifying appearance protects all beings from their faults.

Tantric University of Gyutö

Founded in 1474 by Jetsun Kunga Dhondup, Gyutö Monastery is one of the most renowned tantric monasteries in Tibet. Its tradition continues to this day without having been altered.
Specialising in advanced studies of Buddhist philosophy and the practice of the most important tantric rituals (Guyasamaja, Chakrasambhava, Yamantaka, etc.), Gyutö Tantric University is a major centre for the practice of transcendental meditation and the most complex esoteric ritual arts.

The ultimate goal of these Vajrayana Buddhist practices is to attain the state of Vajradhara, which will enable practitioners to work for the well-being of all living beings and bring them ultimate happiness.

The Lamas Gyupa (holders of the unbroken lineage of spiritual masters) perform powerful purification rituals (elimination of suffering) and accumulation of merit (satisfaction of all others’ desires) on a daily basis, neutralising all obstacles on the one hand and bringing together all the positive conditions for the achievement of the set goal on the other.

The monks of Gyutö are therefore highly sought after for the power of their rituals of purification, protection, and accumulation of merit and wealth.
