Arriving from Toulouse Airport
Ways to reach Nalanda Monastery
We are located near the small town called Lavaur, which is located 44 km away from Toulouse. There are several ways to get to Nalanda from Toulouse Airport:
The easiest and fastest way to come to Nalanda is to take a taxi: it will bring you directly to the monastery in about 50 minutes. It would cost around €100, plus €30 after 7pm. You can also try using Uber – it works in France.
By Public Transport
The alternative is to take the train or bus, in three stages:
1. From Toulouse Airport to Matabiau Train station (in the centre of Toulouse)
You can either take the “Airport Shuttle” that goes directly to the train station (leaving close to exit C of the main building), which departs every 20 minutes. The journey time is between 20 to 45 minutes (depending on traffic conditions), and a single ticket costs €8.
You can also take the tram “T2”, with a terminus at the airport, which departs every 15 minutes. You then have to get off at “Arènes”, and change to underground line towards “Balma”, getting off at “Marengo Matabiau”. The journey time is about 30 minutes, and a single ticket costs €1.60.
2. From Matabiau SNCF station to Lavaur station
For information on train times, you can visit the SNCF France. The journey is direct, costs €9.60 and will take 40 minutes. You can also use OUI.sncf or Trainline apps to check the schedule and buy your train ticket. If booked in advance, you can find train tickets to Lavaur for €1 only. With these apps, you don’t need to print the ticket – just show the QR code from your smartphone.
Near the Matabiau railway station in Toulouse you will also find Matabiau central bus station, where you can take a bus to Lavaur for €9.50. The journey takes at least 55 minutes (depending on traffic).
3. From the Lavaur Railway Station to Nalanda Monastery
The monastery is located 4,2 km away from the station. If you inform us in advance, we can pick you up by car (donation for petrol €2.50).
If you plan to walk, just search for “Nalanda Monastery” in Google Maps – it takes about 50 minutes.
Have a safe journey. We hope to meet you soon!
