Saka Dawa Duchen 2026

Sunday 31 May

One of the four main commemoration in Buddhism

Being one of the four auspicious days in Buddhism, Saka Dawa Duchen is celebrating Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana on the 15th day of the 4th lunar month.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche mentioned that each event is considered to multiply the power of actions done on this day, both auspicious and harmful, by one hundred million. Rinpoche clarified that on Saka Dawa, the power of actions is actually multiplied by three hundred million, not just one hundred million.

Therefore, Buddhists from all around the world engage in many auspicious and meritorious activities such as sponsoring or engaging in various pujas and prayers, extensive offerings to teachers, to holy objects, etc. This is an incredible day of celebration and offerings when skies of merit are created to benefit all sentient beings.
